Scope of services - Assisted Fertilization Technology e.g. intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

What is ICSI?

ICSI is a procedure to assist fertilization. It offers hope for couples with severe male factor infertility. One normal motile sperm is captured under the microscope with an extremely fine needle and injected into the cytoplasm of a mature egg to achieve fertilization. Fertilization rates between 60 and 90% can be achieved with this technique. Embryologists will apply the most suitable technology depending on the circumstances.

Who might benefit from ICSI?

Failed fertilization or low fertilization rate (< 30%)
Normal sperm morphology (Kruger's criteria) consistently below 5%
Severe OAT (oligo-astheno-teratozoospermia)
Surgical sperm retrieval (MESA or TESA)
Male immunological infertility
