Sperm and Oocyte Cryopreservation
Modern women need to achieve a balance between career and family. For women who have just developed their careers or are still looking for an ideal partner, they may consider oocyte cryopreservation to preserve the fertility. The vitrification technique has emerged in the 21st century, and is definitely the best method of cryopreservation.
In some cases, if the husband is unable to successfully collect semen sample on the day of oocyte retrieval of the wife, the oocytes can be frozen and stored first. In-vitro fertilization can be carried out later after there is a submission of semen sample. If the husband is often away from Hong Kong or is under pressure and cannot provide semen sample, he can also submit one or more semen samples in advance to be frozen and stored for later use.
If there is no sperm in the semen (azoospermia), sperm may be obtained through epididymal or testicular surgery, and the sperm can be frozen and stored for later use.
